The owner of a dog with known vicious propensity is liable for the injuries
caused when the dog injures someone. If the owner has homeowners insurance
covering dog bites then the insurance company will pay the claim or pay
any judgment obtained at trial up to the policy limits. If the owner has
no insurance he is personally responsible to settle or pay any judgment
obtained at trial.
If bitten by a dog get immediate medical attention because there is always
the fear of rabies if the dog has not been vaccinated. Also, call the
police, notify the dog warden, take some pictures of the injury and
contact an attorney that handles dog bite litigation.
