On Friday night in Tivoli, NY the lives of two female Bard College students
were taken when an allegedly intoxicated driver hit them with her car
and fled the scene.
According to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, a group of students,
including now deceased, Evelina Martin Brown, 20, of Seattle and Sarah
McCausland, 19, of Winnetka,Ill., were walking north on Route 9G when
a southbound car struck them and fled the scene.
Both of the girls were pronounce dead at the scene. A third Bard student,
Selena Franden, suffered a knee injury and was treated at Columbia Memorial
Hospital in Hudson.
The driver, Carol Boeck, 63, of Red Hook, was later identified and arrested.
Boeck was charged with vehicular manslaughter and drunken driving.
