This morning at approximately 7:20 a.m. about 100 yards north of the Spuyten
Duyvil station in the Bronx, a Manhattan bound Metro-North train derailed.
5 of the 7 train cars left the tracks causing 4 passenger deaths and 68
injuries, 11 of which are in critical condition.
The names of the deceased have been relaesed. James Lovell, 58, of Cold
Spring; Donna L. Smith, 54, of Newburgh; James M. ferrari, 59, of Montrose
and Ahn Kisook, 35, of Queens.
It is unknown at this time what caused the train to leave the tracks, but
some suspect that the train was traveling too fast or possibly the brakes
failed. A full investigation is currently underway.
The Amtrack train line between Albany and NYC and the Metro-North Hudson
line has been suspended until further notice.
Mainetti, Mainetti & O'Connor extends our deepest sympathies to
the friends and families of the victims of this tragic accident.
