Monday morning on the Rondout Creek in Ulster County, NY, a fishing boat
crashed into a Coast Guard bouy causing the boat to flip and it's
occupants to fall in the water. The men that were in the boat were saved
by a passerby.
Richard Champion, 68, of Montgomery, NY was operating a 14 foot aluminum
fishing boat on the creek with his passenger, Robert Duvall, 72, also
of Montgomery and were not wearing life jackets when the accident occurred.
Gerald Gust of Esopus, NY saw the collision from state Route 213 as he
was driving past. He retrieved a docked boat from Lou's Boat Basin
to save the two men.
Both men were transported by Mobile Life Support to HealthAlliance Hospital,
Broadway Campus, in Kingston, NY and treated for their injuries.
