On Tuesday afternoon in Cornwall, four people were injured, two severely,
in a three-vehicle collision on Route 32.
According to Cornwall police Sgt. Douglas Scofield, the accident occurred
when a northbound 2011 GMC pickup truck, driven by Steve Gerber, 55, of
Highland Mills, was struck by a 2006 Acura, driven by Susan Minier, 69,
also of Highland Mills. Apparently, Minier had pulled out of Pleasant
Hill Road across Route 32 toward Angola Road. Gerber's pickup was
forced into the southbound lane and crashed head-on into a 2007 Chrysler
minivan, driven by Inocente Valle-Chavez, 31, of Central Valley.
Valle-Chavez and the 4-year-old boy had to be extricated from the minivan
and were then flown by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla.
Minier and Gerber were taken to the Cornwall campus of St. Luke's
Cornwall Hospital by ambulance.
The condition of Valle-Chavez and the boy was unknown as of Thursday night.
