Late Sunday afternoon in Warrensburg, what began as a group ride on a beautiful
fall day ended in tragedy when one of the motorcyclists was killed and
According to the Warren County Sheriff's office, the accident occurred
when a 57-year-old man was driving his pickup on Route 9 when an 84-year-old
woman pulled her car out into his path from a side road. The pickup driver
then swerved into oncoming traffic, crashing into a group of motorcyclists.
The pickup hit two of the group of five motorcyclists. Gary Hennel, 45,
of Gloversville, was ejected from his bike and pronounced dead at the
scene. The other 53-year-old motorcyclist, also from Gloversville, was
taken to Albany Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
There is an ongoing investigation as to the cause of the accident.
