Nearly three years ago in June 2012, a biker was killed in a
motorcycle accident in Kingston, New York. Two others were injured in the same accident. News
reports indicate that the accident involved two motorcycles, one of which
was engulfed in flames.
Almost two months ago in Ulster, New York, a Kingston gentleman riding
a bicycle was seriously injured after being thrown from his bike. The
accident was reportedly caused by uneven pavement. His injury was so severe,
he had to be flown upstate to Albany for treatment.
Just two days ago in New Paltz, New York the
driver of a motor vehicle ran his car into a pedestrian. The pedestrian suffers from serious physical injuries. The driver was
located after fleeing the scene and he faces felony charges.
These accidents and the victims thereof have several things in common.
First, the accidents happened during the time of year in which the weather
is nicer and warmer. Second, all of the incidents took place in Hudson
Valley cities not too far from each other and probably not too far from
people that are reading this article. Lastly, each of these victims are
entitled to compensation if their injuries and damages were caused by
an act of negligence.
Before we continue with this writing, we pause to send well wishes to the
victims above and their families. Hopefully, there has been some measure
of recovery since the accidents occurred.
Unfortunately, more accidents will occur. This is especially true for motorcycle
riders. Injuries suffered in motorcycle accidents will never cease to
happen. Part of the reason for this is that bikers are more vulnerable
to injury as compared to vehicle drivers when accidents occur. Motorcycles
do not have seat belts, nor air bags, and the riders are not protected
by an interior cabin.
Experienced Kingston, New York personal injury attorneys know that motorcycle accidents that injured or killed riders and or passengers
are highly preventable. Following roadway laws, driving defensively, and
taking the time to look twice before maneuvering in traffic are some of
the easiest ways to prevent motorcycle accidents. Motorists reading this
message should take it seriously so that they do not find themselves needlessly
colliding with a motorcycle.
Bicyclists are just as vulnerable, and probably more vulnerable, then motorcyclists
who ride the roads in Kingston, New York. While motorcycles have the ability
to quickly speed up to avoid a collision, bicyclists often can do nothing
to get out of the way when a car is about to run them over.
The bicycle accidents that happen in the Hudson Valley Region can too be
prevented. Motorists should yield properly at intersections; be careful
not to turn into the path of a cyclist; and of course not disobey New
York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.
Experienced Kingston personal injury attorneys have seen too many bicyclists
suffer from skull fractures, traumatic brain injury, fractured limbs,
among other injuries when motor vehicles collided into cyclists.
As you see above, the cyclist that was injured struck uneven pavement.
Under specific circumstances, the persons/entities responsible for maintaining
the road can be held liable for his damages if such was caused by negligence.
Consult with an experienced personal injury attorney if you or your loved
one has been injured in such a fashion to see if compensation is viable.
Lastly, let us remind pedestrians to be extra careful during the warm weather
months. More vehicles are on the road and not all motorists yield to pedestrians
or take care to follow traffic laws. Motorists should also be reminded
that more pedestrians are on roadways and sidewalks during the warm weather
months. Using reasonable care under the circumstances as would any other
prudent driver will certainly prevent accidents and senseless injuries
and deaths from happening in the Kingston area.
